SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Richard Wayne "Bud" Kingston, 77, of South Sioux City passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Jerry Gilbreath and Karen Kaye officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Bud was born Aug. 2, 1929, on the family farm in rural Martinsburg, Neb., the son of Richard James and Esther Sophia (Hansen) Kingston. He graduated from South Sioux City High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He married Elaine Stavrou on April 25, 1953, in Sioux City. He drove truck for Sioux Transportation for 20 years. He was owner and operator of his Crop Hail Insurance Agency serving the surrounding area for many years. He raised horses, cattle and hogs.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 307 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed reading, his grandchildren and a good argument. He will be missed by his family, farmer associates and his many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; a son, Richard Steve Kingston and his wife, Cathy of Sioux City; a daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Jerry Copple of Dakota City; a sister, Bonnie Cooper of South Sioux City; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Cody and Stephany Kingston, Katie and Kyle Copple; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Dixie Johnson, Donna Boardman and Cherry Hamlin.

Pallbearers will be Dan and Andy Lux, Michael Steenson, Richard Owens, Rod Rohde and John Starzel. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Voss, Ed Marie, Ira Love, Joel Weiss and Jerry Sands.
