Marilyn J. Hogue, 78, of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 16, 2017, at her residence.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a time of fellowship at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Marilyn was born on Jan. 13, 1939, in Volga, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Beverly (Whitford) Chase. She received her teaching certificate through the University of Northern Iowa and taught for a few years before raising her children.

Marilyn married Gary Hogue on March 26, 1960, in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1997. After her children were born, Marilyn started her own childcare business. She lovingly cared for many children for more than 40 years, forming close relationships and touching the lives of countless children and families. Marilyn had a kind and loving heart, and will be missed by all who knew her.

Marilyn and Gary were active in the Jaycees, and had traveled to every state except Alaska. They also enjoyed bowling and were members of First United Methodist Church. Marilyn was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Elizabeth and husband, Rev. Todd Schlitter of Sioux City, Debbie and husband, David Charles of Billings, Mont., and Gary "Butch" and wife, Rita Hogue of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Kyle Bubb, Melissa (Anthony) Henriks, Morgan Hogue, Chloe Hogue, Brant Hogue, Cole Hogue, Matthew Charles, and Rachael Charles; brothers, Bob and wife, Joan Chase of Spearfish, S.D., and Donald and wife, Sharon Chase of Manchester, Iowa; sister-in-law, Carol Chase of Farmersburg, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Jim Chase.

Memorial contributions may be given to Noah's Hope Animal Rescue, or to First United Methodist Church, in Marilyn's memory.
