Dennis Wayne Waterman, 75, of Elk Point, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital, with his family by his side.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Elk Point, with the Rev. Erik Olson officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation with video tribute will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Kober Funeral Home in Elk Point. Condolences may be posted online to www.koberfuneralhome.com.

Denny was born in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Wayne Sylvester and Daisy Irene (Strong) Waterman. Denny received his education at Hawarden schools, but most of his knowledge was gained through his many life experiences. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from July 1959 and was discharged in October 1960. While in the Navy, he served with the Squadron Patrol in Japan.

Denny married the love of his life, Donna Merry on Sept. 30, 1964. To this union, four children were born, Tammy, Shelley, Scott, and Kim.

Denny lived his entire childhood in Hawarden with his parents and seven brothers. He was lucky enough to have his grandparents as well as many other close relatives living close by, especially his favorite grandmother "Granny Good."

Throughout his life, he worked at many jobs including truck driver, maintenance man and farmer and was generally a jack-of-all trades.

His many hobbies included fishing, gardening, woodworking, cooking and most of all, visiting and having coffee with his many, many friends and neighbors.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Donna of Elk Point; his children, Tammy (Stanley) Carlson of Aurora, Colo., Shelley Whitead of Salix, Iowa, Scott Waterman of North Sioux City, and Kim (Merritte) Whitead of Sioux City. He also was blessed with his seven grandchildren, Joshua (Megan), David (Tennille), Stacey (Greg), Kallie, Anthony, Ashley (Maurice) and Aaron (Kara); 17 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Bruce (Barb) Waterman, and Terry (Cindy) Waterman, all of Harwarden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Merritte Whitead; two grandsons, Nickie and Trinity Carlson; and five brothers, Richard, Larry, David, Rodney and Darvin.
