Jerry J. Johnson, 80, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at his residence.

There will be a public visitation with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jerry was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Sioux City. He was the son of Frank and Inez (Martin) Johnson. Jerry graduated from East High School in 1954 and then went on to Morningside College and graduated in 1959.

He started in residential real estate and went on to both commercial and residential development. He was most proud of his developments in the Morningside area including Lakeport Commons, Stone Ridge and Sunnybrook. It was a vision he had many decades ago when the land was still being farmed.

Jerry met and then married Marcia Lee Coe of Wakefield, Neb., in 1964. Early on, they lived in the Morningside area, later moving to the north side where they raised their children.

He served in the Air National Guard and was a member of the Morningside College Board of Directors for nine years. Jerry was an avid collector of antique cars and 1950s memorabilia.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia of Sioux City; three children, Jodi Johnson of Kansas City, and her son, Max; Jeff Johnson (Jennifer) of Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas, and their children, Jack, Abbie and Mimi; and David Johnson (Leah) of Sioux City, and their children Kathrine and A J.

The family requests no flowers or memorials be given.
