Private services were held Saturday, June 10, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Len Halvorson officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arthur was born on Dec. 8, 1928, to Dr. Arthur G. Miethke and Estelle (Howick) Miethke in New York City. He graduated from the Kew Forest School in New York City, and attended Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, serving for two years during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. with B.A. and M.A. degrees in 1952 and 1955 respectively.

Arthur married Claire Weigand on Oct. 28, 1956 in Manhasset, N.Y. They had two children.

Further career moves were to Malinckrodt Chemical Co. in St. Louis, Mo., and Honeywell, Inc. in Wellesley, Mass. In 1971, he joined Iowa Beef Processors (IBP now Tyson Foods) in Dakota City, Neb. There, he directed the company-wide Compensation, Benefits and Organizational Development programs for 23 years.

Arthur loved music, especially “golden oldies,” no bird feeder was ever empty, no squirrel ever hungry, friends and family never lacked for tomatoes when in season. Above all, he cherished his family and family life.

Arthur was a member of First Lutheran Church, a loyal Mason, member of two lodges, America and Sioux Valley, as well as the Abu Bekr Shrine. He was past member of the Cosmopolitan Club and the Siouxland Personnel Association, serving as President in 1973-74.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Claire; a daughter, Dr. Marion Miethke and her husband, Mark Rasmussen of Spokane, Wash.; a son, Arthur Miethke Jr. and his wife, Tonya Miethke of Houston, Texas; a sister, Jane Bouchard of Hobe Sound, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Elaine Utley of New Canaan, Conn., and Marie Rhodes-Ryan of Clearwater, Fla.

Memorials may be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society.
