Opal B. Ellis, 89, of Sioux City died Friday, January 28, 2000 at Harvest Morningside Nursing and Rehab Center after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Dave Sowers of Morningside Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Miss Ellis was born February 1910, on a farm eight miles west of Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse W. and Catharine (Beaver) Ellis. She graduated from Oto High School in 1929. The family moved to the limits of Sioux City in 1944.

She was a factory worker at Sioux City Battery Co. from 1944 to 1956. Upon leaving Sioux City Battery Co. she was a housekeeper for 25 years for the Irving Nogg family.

She was a Charter Member of Morningside Baptist Church. She was also a “Young At Heart” Sr. Citizens member at the church and a longtime member of Sioux City Gospel Mission Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Wilma and Don Sappingfield and Loretta and Robert Daniels all from Sioux City; a nephew, Bradley Daniels from Sioux City; two nieces, Judy and Andrea Daniels, both of Sioux City, three grandnieces and one grandnephew.

She was preceded in death by a nephew, Ronald Daniels.

Pallbearers will be M. Todd Daniels, Richard DeBoer, Robert S. Edlund and Paul Grause.
