Donald D. Raders, 81, of Sioux City died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Whitfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lee Williamson officiating. Services will conclude at the church. The cremated remains will be interred at a later date. Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donald was born in Manchester, Iowa, on July 15, 1924, to Francis E. and Nellie G. (Gearhart) Raders. He grew up and graduated from Manchester High School in 1942. Donald entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He participated in three invasions and was honorably discharged in April 1946 as a radioman second class. Donald attended Coe College and Central Radio and Television School in Kansas City, where he obtained a Federal Communication 1st class license.

On June 27, 1948, he married Wilma Knickerbocker in Manchester. He worked as an engineer at KICD Radio Station in Spencer, Iowa, from 1948 until 1950. He then went to work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1951 until 1980. He was a supervisor for 24 years until he retired in October 1980. Donald was past president of the Telephone Pioneers and a life member of the Pioneers.

He was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church, Triangle Lodge, Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, Hospital Dads and High 12.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma; children, Mark and wife, Sheri Raders and children, Allison and Bradley of Norfolk, Neb.; Lorene and husband, Richard Simmons and children, Erin and Megan of Troy, Ill.; Dean Raders of Lake Elmo, Minn., and Jim and wife, Shari Raders and children, Justin, Staci and Seth of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Doris Nieman of Manchester, and Marjorie and husband, Gerald Perrinjaquet of Edgewood, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, George Nieman of Boone, Iowa and Buryle and wife, Mary Knickerbocker of Marshalltown, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to Whitfield United Methodist Church or Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Fund.
