Catherine Herring, 94, of Atwater, Minn., a former Sioux City resident, died Friday, October 18, 1996 at Ashwood Health Care Center in Willmar, Minn.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at St. John Lutheran Church near Atwater with the Rev. Anthony Bertram officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Atwater Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Additional services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Martha Anderson of United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City.

Mrs. Herring was born October 12, 1902 in Sioux City, the daughter of John and Theresia (Voeltl) Mosetter. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Cooper School.

She married James Herring Nov. 17, 1939, in Le Mars, Iowa. The couple made their home in Atwater and she worked as an operator and bookkeeper at the telephone company. He died in 1974.

Mrs. Herring was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and St. John Ladies Aid. She has been a resident of the Ashwood Health Care Center in Willmar for the last seven months.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Fischer of Minneapolis, Marjorie and her husband, Donald Peik, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Florence Pierce of Iowa City, Iowa; a step-daughter, Ailene Herring of Atwater; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Marie Brower, Marquerite Mosetter and Clara Winther, all of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.

Memorials may be made in her name to St. John Lutheran Church, the Dakota Boys Ranch or the donor’s choice.
