Bernice J. Lytten, 74, Sioux City, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 26, 1996 in Iowa City, Iowa, after attending the Iowa Hawkeye football game.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. David L. Cline officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin 3 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m. at Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Morningside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lytten was born June 27, 1922, in Lake View, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Marie Weitzel. She graduated from Lake View High School.

She married Gene Lytten April 18, 1942 in Dakota City. The couple moved to Spencer, Iowa in 1952 and to Sioux City in 1957. He died December 16, 1980 in Sioux City.

She worked for the former Michaels Garden Center in Sioux City.

Mrs. Lytten was a longtime active member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Dorcas Circle and was a member of the Altar Guild, Worship and Music Committee and a Bible Study Group. She was a member of Floyd Ladies Golf League and Green Valley Ladies Golf League. She was a volunteer each year at the Nike Golf Tour at Dakota Dunes. She also was a member of the Ladies Card Group.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Susan and Charles Schirm of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Linda and Sam Schlotman of Bronson, Iowa and Elizabeth and Carl Newquist of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren, Mark Boe, Tracie Deason, Melanie Graves, Shane, Daren and Stacy Schlotman and Dustin and Lindsey Newquist; five great-grandchildren, a brother, Marvin Weitzel of Lake View and a special aunt, Katie Lange of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Gregory Boe.

Pallbearers will be Shane, Daren and Glen Schlotman; Dustin Newquist, Chris Graves and Duane Erickson.

A memorial is being established in her name at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church.
