Wayne R. Allen, 63, 5501 Bushnell Ave., died Thursday, October 24, 1996 in Denver, Colorado of a sudden heart attack.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. William H. Steward officiating. Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Allen was born November 29, 1932, in Allen, Nebraska, the son of Ronald and Opal (Ellis) Allen. He graduated from Allen High School and Morningside College in 1963. He received his master’s degree from the University of Nebraska in 1965. He moved to Sioux City while attending Morningside College and had lived here since that time.

He married Karen A. Barghols November 18, 1962 in Holstein, Iowa. He was a social worker for Catholic Charities for several years and the last 24 years for Western Hills AEA 12.

Mr. Allen was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Grace United Methodist Church, Association of Retarded Citizens and Elks Lodge 112 of Sioux City. He coached Little League for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kurt and his wife, Trina Allen of Rapid City, S.D.; a daughter, Karla and her husband, George Allenbach of Thornton, Colorado; two grandchildren, Derek Allen and Justine Allenbach and a sister, Joanne and her husband, Keith Noe of Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
