Albert R. Castle, 69, 1633 LaPlante Ave., died Monday, October 21, 1996, at a Sioux City hospital following a long illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Berkemier Funeral Home with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Riverside United Methodist Church officiating. The body will be cremated following the service and the ashes will be buried at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Castle was born September 7, 1927, at Ticonic, Iowa, the son of Louis and Hazel (Fuller) Castle. He attended Ticonic schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and came to Sioux City after his discharge.

He married Donna Van Houten October 12, 1970 at North Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City.

He was employed by the Sioux City Community School System, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gene and his wife, Debra of Duncan, Arizona and Terry of Phoenix, Arizona; five daughters, Barbara and her husband, John Roberts of Osage City, Kansas, Debra and her husband, Chris Collyer of Phoenix, Lola Louis of Bosice, La., Lori Castle of Phoenix and Carol and her husband, Jeff Guydos, of Lebo, Kansas; two step-sons, Daniel Van Houten and his wife, Mary, of Everett, Washington and David Van Houten of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Emma and Allen Anderson of Sioux City and Viola and Eddie Hoverman of Azuza, California; 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Castle and a step-son, Gary Van Houten.
