Ruth Barker, 97, of Sioux City died Monday, November 4, 1996 at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barker was born April 15, 1899 in Sioux City, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Tabke) Barcal. She attended Sioux City schools. She married Griffin Barker in Rock Port, Mo. in 1931. He died in 1987.

Mrs. Barker was a member of the Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Girls of ’68, Morningside Chapter Order of the Eastern Star 502 and enjoyed many card clubs.

Survivors include one son, W. Lynn DeBruyne of Folsom, California, one daughter, Janice Miller of Sloan, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Tim Miller, Marvin Collins, Nicholas and Amber Sweisberger.

Memorials may be given in her name to Hospice of SIouxland.
