Ernest F. Bruckner, 89, 4415 Lincoln Way, Sioux City, died Tuesday, September 10, 1996 at the Countryside Retirement Home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. David L. Cline officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m. at Christy Smith & Hockenberry Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Bruckner was born April 11, 1907 in Sioux City, the son of Ernest F. and Sarah Bruckner. He attended Sioux City schools, including Central High School. He married Mary C. Kelley on October 12, 1935 at St Joseph’s Church in Sioux City. Mr. Bruckner was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. He worked for Cudahey Packing Co. and then in 1942 became part-owner of John Harvey & Co. Cattlebuyers, retiring in 1970.

Mr. Bruckner belonged to St Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1954, where3 he was a former Church council president and chairman of the property committee. He also belonged to Morningside Lodge 615 A.F. & A.M. He was a former president of the Livestock Exchange and the Sioux City Livestock Market News & Education Foundation and was one of the original founders of Pork Days at the Sioux City Stockyards.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Sioux City; a brother, Leonard B. Bruckner of Omaha, Nebraska and several nephews, including Chet Axthlem of Sioux City.

Memorial may be given in his name to St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
