Esther M. Cluff, 95, of Sioux City died Sunday November 3, 1996 at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Berkemier Funeral Home, with the Rev. Martha Anderson of the Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at Hope Cemetery in Hull, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cluff was born May 29, 1901 in Hull, Iowa. She graduated from Hull High School and then moved to Los Angeles, California, where she attended college.

Following college she taught at the prison in Ventura, California, for two years. She was then employed by Volunteers of America in Los Angeles.

She married John W. Cluff on April 29, 1927, in Pasadena, California. The couple made their home in California for two years, after which they transferred to various locations working for Volunteers of America. They settled in Portland, Maine.

She retired from Volunteers of America in 1947, when they moved to Sioux City. She was employed by the Department of Human Services until retiring in 1966, then worked at Travelers Aid until 1970.

Mr. Cluff died on August 25, 1952.

Mrs. Cluff was a member of the Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church and Morningside Chapter 502 of the Eastern Star and was a 50 member of P.E.O.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Esther M. and Willis M Cleveland of Las Vegas, Nev. and a brother, Scott G. De Mots of Seattle, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her son, John, and two sisters, Ruth De Mots and Carol De Mots.
