Howard R. Hanneman, 83, Sioux City, died Wednesday, December 4, 1996 at a local hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Morningside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Anderson of Dakota City United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present. Masonic Service will be conducted by the Riverside Masonic Lodge 662 AF & AM at 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Edward H. Monahan Post 64 American Legion.

Mr. Hanneman was born July 28, 1913 in Naschusa, Illinois. He attended grade school in Oakland, Nebraska and junior high in Vermillion, South Dakota. His family moved to Sioux City in 1929, where he worked as a Western Union messenger for Montgomery Wards, and at Western Weld Tire Shop.

He married Charlotte Thompson on November 26, 1941. She died March 24, 1979 in Sioux City. He spent four years in the Army during WWII, one year overseas in France, Germany and Austria and was honorable discharged in November of 1945. He then returned to Sioux City and worked for Getz Buick Company and Salsness Motors until retired in 1978.

Mr. Hanneman was a member of the North Riverside Masonic Lodge 662 A.F. & A.M., Abu Bekr Shrine Temple-Wrecking Crew & Hospital Dads and American Legion Monahan Post 64.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Rae Hanneman and Lynnette J. Berge, both of Sioux City; two brothers, John H. and his wife Ann of Sun City, California and Donald G. of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Kurt Berge of Iowa City, Iowa and Jason Berge of Sioux City and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward and one sister, Arlene Amick.

Memorials may be sent to the Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Fund.
