George Jerome Thompson, 65, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 3, 1996 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein, Iowa, with the Rev. Don Sariff. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Mr. Thomas was born November 21, 1931 in Fergus Falls, Minn., the son of George and Alice (Kjono) Thompson. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School and Whapaton State School of Science in Whapaton, S.D. He married Verla (Breyfogle) Kistenmacher on March 9, 1957 in Holstein. He was employed as a foreman at North American Manufacturing from 1963 to 1982. He then worked at the Sioux City Hilton in the bakery department, then in the purchasing department for several years before retiring.

Mr. Thompson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Morningside Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Valerie and Paul Naab of Cherokee, Iowa and Peggy and Daniel Wagner of Franklin, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy and Joshua McClure, Alex, Amanda and Nichole Thompson, Calab, Megan and Marni Wagner, Troy and Danielle Naab, and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
