SIOUX CITY | Bevelyn A. "Bev" O'Brien of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dan Rupp officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Bevelyn A. O'Brien was born on Feb. 17, 1922, in Sioux City, the daughter of Edmund E. and Florence (Sloan) Schmidt. Bev graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1940 and attended Rockford College in Illinois on an art scholarship. Bev worked many years as a bookkeeper at the orthopedic office of Drs. Krigsten, Blenderman and Doughtery until her retirement in the mid-1980s.

Ms. O'Brien served as a longtime volunteer at the Sioux City Public Library and was a member of the Catholic Women's League, Carmel Guild, Blessed Sacrament Sewing Circle and the Siouxland crafters. Bev enjoyed watercolor painting, crafting, and sewing when time allowed.

Bev is survived by grandchildren, Corey Munson and his wife, Mindy, of Sioux City, and their children, Andrew, Taylor, and Jordan, Erin Klopstad and her husband, Andy, of Gilbert, Iowa, and their children, Grace and Sam, and Jill Grunst of West Des Moines and her children, Kellen and Libby; and a sister-in-law, Claire O'Brien of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy A. Kirchner; and her parents.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Northern Hills Assisted Living and Siouxland PACE for their care and compassion.
