SIOUX CITY | Bonita M. "Bonnie" Garrels, 90, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a Catholic Daughters of The Americas rosary at 4 p.m., and vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Bonnie was born on March 13, 1926, in Kingsley, Iowa, to William C. and Claire A. (Dugan) Stortz. She graduated from Kingsley High School, then moved to Sioux City about a year later.

On Nov. 24, 1945, she married Lyle W. Garrels in Kingsley. They raised six children. Bonnie was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Lyle died on May 24, 1978, in Sioux City.

She was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of The Americas and volunteered at the Queen of Peace. Bonnie enjoyed her craft and coffee group.

Survivors include her children, Gary Garrels of Sioux City, Dianne Warren of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Rhonda (Clarence) Kneebone of Jefferson, S.D., Lannie (Dave) Eidenshink of Sioux City, and Debbie (Dave) Garrison of Platte City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Jon Merritt, Michelle (Grant) Stroud, Nicole (Craig) Johnson, Natalie (John Quade) Garrels, Bryan (Jennifer) Kneebone, Wendilyn (Fred) Veenker, Thad (Wendy) Kneebone, Jennifer (Kyle) Rager, Matthew (Katie) Kneebone, Bret (Keylea) Garrison, and Bethany (Cory) Williams; 11 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Mary Luckel; and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Pam Claussen; great-granddaughter, Michaela Kneebone; sister, Rita Luckel; brothers, Wayne and Wendelin Stortz; son-in-law, Jerry Warren; and Susan Winters.
