Janet Marie Jenkins was born the daughter of Opal Scott (Siefke) on June 14th, 1937 in Sioux City, Iowa. She was raised in Correctionville, Iowa by her grandparents Charles and Mamie Scott until their deaths, and finished her high school years with Faye and Hiney Mahin. She graduated from Correctionville in 1955. Janet was a waitress in several cafes in Correctionville. After graduation she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator in Correctionville. In 1957 she transferred to the Glendale, California office where she made her home with her aunt and uncle Maye & Fat Small. She returned to Iowa in 1959 and married Harold (Sam) Jenkins on June 20, 1959. To that union four children were born.

To put it simply, Janet loved. She possessed an unconditional love that will be missed by all who knew her. Janet loved the Lord, loved her family, loved people, and loved doing for others. It was often said that she had a heart of gold, and she truly did. She practiced what she believed and was always willing to give a smile, a hug, a hand, and something sweet to eat. Janet’s treasure was her family; being with them and around them was her favorite activity, especially when she got to play cards and games. She also loved being a hostess for those many jam sessions; listening to Sam sing and play music was something she relished. Janet enjoyed collecting cookbooks while her family and friends enjoyed sampling her baked creations. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Correctionville and was willing to be on call for the United Methodist Church in Washta.

Janet is survived by her husband Sam of 57 years, four children: Scott (Brenda) Jenkins of Washta, IA; Mark (Sheryle) Jenkins of Washta, IA; Yvonne (Mike) Moats of Marcus, IA; Valarie Olson of Washta, IA; seven grandchildren: Luke (Jessica) Jenkins of Shakopee, MN, Audra (Cameron) Crocker of Marcus, IA, Rebecca (Peter) Foxhoven of Cedar Falls, IA, Samantha Jenkins of Washta, IA, Chelsey Olson of Ft.
