SIOUX CITY | Richard A. Clark, 66, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Arrowhead Rehabilitation Center following complications from a lengthy illness.

Richard will be interned in a private ceremony in Sioux City at a later date. Arrangements in Arizona were under the direction of Heritage Funeral Chapel of Peoria AZ, where condolences/cards/letters can be sent to the family.

Richard was born and raised in Sioux City. He was a 1969 graduate of Sioux City East High School, a 1975 graduate of Briar Cliff College and he received his master's degree in 1977 from Central Missouri State University. Richard was a lifelong member of Morningside Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. As a church-sponsored Boy Scout, Richard earned the distinguished God and Country and Order of the Arrow awards.

After receiving his master's degree, Richard did his internship at Iowa State University's Athletic Training Department, where he received his National Athletic Trainer's license. Soon thereafter, he joined the United States Sports Academy where he was stationed in Manama, Bahrain for six years. Upon returning to the United States, he worked as an athletic trainer in Tulsa, Okla. for two years and then moved to Phoenix, Ariz. for a 30-year long career in the athletic training field in Phoenix and surrounding areas.

He is survived by his daughter, L. Alia (Clark) White and husband, Jacob of Glendale; brothers, James C. Clark and wife, Jill of Papillion, Neb., and Ronald S. Clark and wife, Melanie of Murphy Texas; his cousin, Sandra K. (Clark) and husband, Bryan Vaughan of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Aisha, Adele, Amina and Chase; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many, many friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Clark and Frances E. (Benson) Clark; brother, Donald B. Clark; and aunt, Alice Jean Clark.
