Shirley and her twin sister, Charlotte, were born May 22, 1930, in Salix, Iowa, the daughter of W. Henry and Louise (Copenhaver) Lamoureux. She was raised in the Salix area and attended St. Joseph Catholic School. After graduation, she was employed by Mutual Loan Company in Sioux City, as a secretary, until her marriage to Merlin "Pete" Copple on Sept. 14, 1949, in Salix. The couple enjoyed farming for 53 years and wintered in Texas for 35 years.

Her entire life and passion was being a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. She served on many committees, was a leader of the CYO, taught CCD, and was active in choir, and the tabernacle and rosary societies. Sixty-two fun-filled years were spent with her dear friends, the "Merry Mom's" card club. She was a charter member of the Sloan Country Club, where she and Pete played many rounds of golf. Together they played and taught shuffleboard in Texas. She was an excellent shuffler who received hundreds of trophies. One major thrill was in 1993, when she won the Texas state women shuffleboard championship. Besides farming, she and Pete loved to travel and dance. A "once-in-a-lifetime" adventure took her to Paris, Lourdes, Fatima, and Medjugorie.

She was most accomplished in everything she tackled. She loved to bake, cook, garden, sew, sing, work in the fields, travel, and pray. She spent hours decorating and baking wedding, birthday, and all occasion cakes with her sister, Rosalie. She was a seamstress, completing gowns and outfits for her three daughters. Shirley was a local artist with oil paintings in homes across the United States. She totally enjoyed people, and was full of life and energy. "She never sat down." Her favorite phrases were "Yippe Do" and/or "God Bless You."

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Fred Craig of Sloan, Christine and Paul Brown of Friendship, Wis., and Peggy and Gaylen Baker of Salix; six grandchildren, Dave (Beth) Craig, Becky (Scott) Hanson, Matt (Lisa) Brown, Stephanie (Cade) Hannasch, Lee (Shelly) Baker, and Mindy (Brian) Peterson; 11 plus great-grandchildren, Chloe and Brecken Baker, Logan and Luke Brown, Ian, Craig, and Devon Hanson, Ryan and Tyler Craig, Theodora, Augustina, and soon plus one, Hannasch; two sisters, her twin, Charlotte (Harold) Mook of Arlington, Tenn., and Jean Ann (Ken) Heidbrink of Le Mars, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Patty Lamoureux of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin; two brothers, Walter (Pauline) Lamoureux and Duane Lamoureux; and two sisters, Rosalie (Delbert) Wilt and Mary Louise (Harold) Kallin.

Hospice Nurse Quote: "With brave wings she will fly."

Memorials in Shirley's memory may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
