SLOAN, Iowa | Doris Eva "Dodo" Nelson, 81, of Sloan, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, with the Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa. Doris Eva was born Nov. 11, 1935, near Albaton, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Freeda (Carlson) Brenden. She grew up near Albaton, and graduated from Whiting High School.

Doris and Byron Nelson were united in marriage on Feb. 27, 1955, in Albaton. Eight children were born to this union, Eva, Donnie, Susan, John, Richard, Beth, Becky and Anne.

Doris enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and especially loved spending time with her family. She had been residing at Pleasant View Care Center for the past two years.

She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Sloan.

Survivors include her children, Eva (Mike) Hibbing of Lake Charles, La., Donnie Nelson of Salix, Iowa, Susan Nelson of Sloan, John Nelson of Sioux City, Richard Nelson of Sioux City, Beth Enns of Sloan, Becky (Scott) Pokett of Omaha, and Anne (Drew) Boals of Dakota City, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Williams of Sloan, and Ardis (Bert) McCandless of Whiting, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Brenden and JoAnne Brenden, both of Whiting; several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Freeda (Carlson) Brenden; her husband, Byron "Barney" Nelson; two brothers, Arnold Brenden and Gale Brenden; one sister, Lois Leapley; and one son-in-law, Bill Enns.
