Roland "Ike" Goodwin, 90, of Sloan, Iowa died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at his home in Sloan.

Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Community Church of Christ in Sloan, Iowa with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will follow in the Sloan Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Smith-Rhodes American Legion Post #295 of Sloan. Visitation will be held 9:00 A.M. until service time Friday, February 10, 2017 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Roland "Ike" Lee Goodwin was born April 26, 1926 in Albaton, Iowa, the son of Harry and Julia (Dahl) Goodwin. He graduated from Sloan High School in May of 1945. He joined the United States Navy in December of 1945, and was stationed in Attu, Alaska for 18 months as a Third Class Radioman.

In May of 1950, he was married to Delores Lussier at the United Methodist Church in Salix, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Barry, Denise, and Jolene.

Ike was a farmer at heart. In 1985, the couple moved to town where he worked as a part-time crop adjuster for Rain and Hail Company.
He was on the first board of the Sloan Golf Course and served as secretary-treasurer from 1970-1976. He served as township chairman for the ASC office, Chairman of the Sloan Township Election Board, was on the Sloan Council for four years, and served as moderator of the U.C.C. Church Board for several years.

He and his wife spent their winter months in Mercedes, Texas for 27 years. His hobbies were woodcarving, golf, fishing, and playing cards. In his later years, he couldn't wait for Saturday nights at 5:00 to watch and listen to the Gaither Family on PBS. One of the highlights of his life was getting to go on the Honor Flight Trip for World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C. in 2008.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Delores Goodwin of Sloan, IA; three children, Barry (Kathy) Goodwin of Arlington, SD, Denise (Kevin) Hummel of Sloan, IA, and Jolene (Dave) Meyers of Sloan, IA; four grandchildren, Matt (Tara) Willmott, Heather (Christopher Klapp) Hummel, Jill (significant other Tyler Hubert) Willmott, and Nicole (Austin) Lee; six great-grandchildren, Hallie Lee, Ty Willmott, Reese Willmott, Henry Lee, Sydnee Willmott, and Hazel Lee; one brother, Jim (Donna) Goodwin of Hornick, IA; and one sister, Eleanor (Joseph) Chelini of Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Julia Goodwin, and three siblings, Mary Johnson, Theodore "Buck" Goodwin, and Pauline Johnson.
