SIOUX CITY | Mabel Faye Lauridsen, 91, of Oconomowoc, Wis., formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at home at Shorehaven of Oconomowoc.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Shorehaven Chapel, with Chaplain Nick Slater presiding. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown, Wis. Arrangements are with Pederson-Nowatka Funeral Home in Watertown. Condolences may be left at www.pn-fh.com.

Mabel was born April 1, 1925, in Correctionville, Iowa. Throughout most of her life, someone was always trying to pull an April Fool's joke on her. She lived on a farm until age 3, and helped with anything her parents needed. She enjoyed reading and playing games. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. They were a close family.

Mabel's husband Carleton grew up in the same neighborhood, and Mabel and Carleton played together as kids. Mabel's brother Bob and Carleton walked her to school every day from age 13.

She worked at the Morningside College Library. Her sister Geraldine would meet Mabel at the library and walk home with her every night. Sometimes they would stop at the pharmacy and have a Cherry Coke. Sometimes Carleton joined them.

Carleton and Mable started dating when Mabel was 18. She went to Morningside College (a Methodist college). Carleton and Mable married and had three children, Fred, Robert and Karen.

Mabel worked as a school teacher. She taught every grade, but her favorite was second grade.

The family enjoyed camping and traveling. Carleton passed away on Feb. 20, 2012. It was a sad time in Mabel's life.

As an adult, Mabel enjoyed reading, going out with friends, sewing, quilting, knitting and working with ceramics. She loved writing letters to people, and she loved dogs and birds. Her three children were important to her. Mabel had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and was proud of each one.

Survivors include her sons, Fred (Dolores) of Omaha, Neb., and Robert (Cynthia) of Oconomowoc; grandchildren, Fred (Honey) Lauridsen Jr., Rommel (Deborah) Lauridsen, Jamie Towers and Devon Towers; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Aubrey and Madisen; and sister, Geraldine McKim of Westminster, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Karen; and two brothers, Robert and John.

Memorials in Mabel's honor may be directed to Shorehaven Charitable Foundation.

The family expresses a sincere thank you to the staff of Shorehaven Health and Rehab Center for the excellent care provided.

Mabel was blessed to have an "adopted" family, the Bensons. Their visits and love were cherished and appreciated.
