SIOUX CITY | James W. “Sweetie” Allen, 74, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.

A time of sharing and a celebration of life will be held 6:30 p.m. Monday at Becker–Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Wendell “Sweetie” was born May 6, 1942, in Wakefield, Neb., the son of Wendell A. and Madonna L (Heeney) Allen. He graduated as Homecoming King from Ponca, Neb. High School. He married Jean A. Graham in June of 1984 at Kingsley, Iowa. He was employed in maintenance for 40 years, and retired from, I.B.P./Tyson.

He was a Catholic. Sweetie was a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the St. Louis Cardinals, enjoyed shooting pool with his Court Street buddies and playing cards. He loved his pet cats and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; a son, Jeffrey J. and his significant other, Lisa; a daughter, Jody and her husband, David Wilkerson of New Bern, N.C.; a sister, Judy Rogers of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren, Jamie and Samuel Allen, Bryce and Derek Wilkerson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials directed to the family for distribution at a later date.
