SIOUX CITY | Roy Dayrel Kinyon, 89, a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Jan. 15, 2017, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Everly (Iowa) United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Eaton officiating. Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City. Roy was a lifelong resident of Everly, Iowa, and graduated from Everly High School in 1944. Upon completing high school at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and held the rank of SSG upon relief from active duty in 1949. During the war, he served on the USS Vincennes which provided support in the Pacific Theatre. The last two years of active duty, he was transferred to Great Lakes Naval Center and soon after was employed for a short time with Abbot Laboratories, where he met Lucille and later married on June 19, 1948. He then attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering for a short time. Upon the death of his his brother, Elmer, he and Lucille moved back to Everly to assist his father with the Kinyon Plumbing and Heating business until his retirement.

Roy touched the lives of many and was a true blessing to all who knew him. He truly respected everyone and charmed many of us with his entertaining stories and quirky humor.

Roy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lucille; children, Marilyn Tucker of Portland, Ore., Kendal (Audrey) Kinyon of Sergeant Bluff, and Scott (Donna) Kinyon of Omaha; grandchildren, Shane Tucker, Tracy Emrich, Lindsay Stier, Kristopher Kinyon and Kelsey Kinyon; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Edgar Kinyon; and brother, Elmer Kinyon.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pam and Larry Johnson for the enduring friendship and support they have given the Kinyon family over the years, and to the wonderful caregivers at Holy Spirit Retirement Home and Southland Hospice for giving Roy comfort and love.
