J. Kjaersgarrd, 30, of Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at the WIC State of Alaska Medical Center in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The body was cremated. Her remains were flown home with her father, Wm. Harris. Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Perosa Funeral Home in N.L.F.P., Fairbanks.

J. was born April 1, 1974, in Ponca, Neb., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Harris of Sioux City. Mr. Malcolm Stewart, biological father and wife from Phoenix, Ariz. She was employed at NCC Community College, teaching physics. She also was employed at Cargill.

She was a recent graduate of the University of South Dakota, obtaining her doctorate degree in physics and the study of Aurora. She also attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in genetics and minoring in physics. She was in Alaska working for the National Science Foundation and University of Alaska, Fairbanks, under the physics department, studying the Aurora and sharing this information with the Mechigmen Research Facility in Russia. She was very involved with raising and breeding horses over the last 20 years.

Survivors include three sisters, Lynn Harris of Vermillion, S.D., Heather and John Dalton of Sioux City and Traci and Chris Meyers of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Tom and Risa Stewart of Phoenix, Ariz.; and five nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Herbert Harris; and maternal grandparents, Victor and Evelyn Miles.

A memorial has been established in her name at Wells Fargo Bank in Sioux City, giving out scholarships on her behalf to the PFHA Youth.
