Evelyn K. Andersen, 83, of Sioux City died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Speidel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service beginning 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Evelyn was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of John and Carrie (Karley) Swisher. She graduated from Hinton High School.

She married Edwin C. Andersen on May 11, 1940. Evelyn lived her entire life in the Sioux City area except for a short time spent in North Carolina, where her husband was stationed during World War II. Although she worked outside the home for several years, Evelyn knew her real calling in life was that of a homemaker, always taking great pride in her culinary skills.

She was a member of the Danish Brotherhood and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Carpenters Union. While her sons were young, she was a Cub Scout den mother and actively helped with the Boy Scouts. Evelyn was dedicated to raising money for the March of Dimes.

Survivors include two sons, Edwin and his wife, Linda of LaCygne, Kan., and Darrell and his special friend, JoAnn Thornton of Sergeant Bluff; five grandchildren, Leslie Parker and her husband, Wad of Dakota Dunes, Kimberly Baze and her husband, Keith of Lone Jack, Mo., Michelle Hedman and her husband, Troy of St. Louis, Mo., Rob Schultz and his wife, Deb and Tracy Knapp and her husband, Mike of Sergeant Bluff; three sisters, Opal Hanke and Versalla "Sally" Grasz of Le Mars, Iowa and Lucille Carlson and her husband, Clarence of Beresford, S.D.; and two brothers and their wives, John and Jerri Swisher of Harlan, Iowa and Bill and Marge Swisher of Westfield, Iowa; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; an infant daughter, Karen Kay; a sister, Elverna Marienau; and an infant sister, Edna.

Pallbearers will be Clarence "Tubby" Carlson, Wade Parker, Keith Baze, Aaron Beier, Alex Beier and Rob Schultz.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice.
