Verla M. Richardson, 73, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of the Epiphany, with the Very Rev. Paul-Louis Arts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Verla was born July 30, 1932, in Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of Maurice A. and Cecile (Martin) Sullivan. She was a long time Sioux City resident.

She married Merle V. Richardson on Nov. 26, 1949, in Elk Point, S.D. Her life revolved around her family. She enjoyed her grandchildren, especially playing cards with them.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Pat and Jo Richardson of Moline, Ill., Kathy and Tom Snyder of Early, Iowa, Jim and Sharon Richardson of Sioux City, Denny and Judy Richardson of Sioux City, Debbie and John Flute of Flandreau, S.D., and Laurie and Raul Garcia of Sioux City; her siblings, Margaret and her husband, Ernie Shultz of Onawa, Iowa, Evelyn Coleman of Des Moines, Leo Sullivan and his wife, Maxine of Sioux City, Patricia Pauley of Centralia, Mo., Shirley Uber of Biwabik, Minn., and Arlene Sullivan of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Richardson; a sister, Karen Gerdes; and two brothers, Walter Sullivan and John Francis Sullivan.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
