Lester Tillman Sr., 76, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with Walter Goodwin Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a wake service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Lester was born Feb. 16, 1929, to Lee Henry and Callie (Cooper) Tillman in Lexington, Miss. He grew up in Lexington and attended Saints Junior College in Lexington. He moved to Sioux City, where he worked for Illinois Central Railroad for 15 years. He then began working at Cudahy Packing House and retired in 1981 from Floyd Valley Packing.

He married Grace Walker in March 1951. The couple worked for many years in the missionary field with the Winnebago and Macy Indian Reservations.

He was a member of Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, where he was a faithful deacon for many years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening in later years. He was a wonderful and loving father.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; five sons, Robert Tillman and his wife, Coleen, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lester Tillman Jr. of Sioux City, Lee Henry Tillman of Sioux City, Ronald A. Marshall of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lawrence T. Butler of Winslow, Ariz.; three daughters, Richenda and her husband, Curtis Pritchard, of Collierville, Tenn., Rena and her husband, Walter Goodwin Sr., of Sioux City and Rhonda K. Tillman of Memphis, Tenn.; 29 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four brothers and three sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings; and five grandchildren.
