Eleanor F. Stowell, 87, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Lee Williamson of Whitfield United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eleanor was born Feb. 10, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of Charles Ray and Alice Amelia Stowell. She graduated from Central High School in 1936.

In earlier years, she worked at John Hancock Insurance Co. During World War II, she was a secretary and a very active participant for the U.S.O. in Sergeant Bluff. She then worked at Weatherwax for 25 years and later for Holtz Construction Co., retiring in 1983.

She was a very active member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and the church circle. She also was an active member of Quota International of Sioux City. She loved family activities and the outdoors,, especially going on picnics. She also enjoyed yard work and gardening.

Survivors include a sister, June B. Weins of Sioux City; two nieces, Sue and her husband, Jim Pfeister of Sioux City and Kathy Weins of Lincoln, Neb.; and a great-niece, Katie Weins of Lincoln; and a great-nephew, Dan Weins of Lincoln.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Nile A. Weins; and a nephew, William N. Weins, PhD.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Whitfield United Methodist Church.
