Hertha Nelson, 90, of Sioux City, formerly of rural Revillo, S.D., died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo, with the Rev. Keith Smith officiating. Burial will be in Recaboth Cemetery, near Albee, S.D. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Emmanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank, S.D.

Hertha Senkbeil, the daughter of Oswald and Ella (Rosenwald) Senkbeil, was born May 10, 1915, in rural Bellingham, Minn.

She was united in marriage to Clifford Nelson on April 14, 1938, in Marietta, Minn. The couple lived in South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Washington and California.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Revillo, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in other church activities. She loved working on the farm, cooking, knitting and spending time with family.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Odell and Kathy Nelson of Sioux City; a grandson and his wife, Jonathan and Jodi Nelson of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren, Geoffrey, Sydney and Gregory Nelson and Ashley Church; a brother and his wife, Elmer and Emily Senkbeil of Great Falls, Mont.; two sisters-in-law, Germaine Senkbeil of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Enid Senkbeil of Watertown, S.D.; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford on Feb. 4, 1997; a daughter, Jenell Renee; four brothers, Art, Arnold, Harold and Gay Senkbeil; and two sisters, Mabel and one in infancy.
