KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Janet K. Michener, 69, of Kingsley, formerly of the Anthon, Iowa, area, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at a Kingsley nursing home.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Janet was born May 22, 1936, in Blair, Neb., the daughter of Lars and Lena (Jespeersen) Jensen. She was raised near Aurelia, Iowa. She attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, graduating with a teaching degree. Following her education, she taught school for a few years.

She married Gary Michener on Aug. 17, 1962, in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple moved to California for a year, then moved back to this area in the mid-1960s. When she moved back to Iowa, instead of teaching, she helped her husband on the farm and raised her family. Gary died Sept. 22, 2005.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star chapter in Anthon, the Garden Club and the United Church of Christ in Oto, Iowa. She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann (Jay) Hardy of Redwood City, Calif., and Kim (Mo) Emami of Fort Collins, Colo.; two grandchildren, Farrah and Zoya Emami; and a sister, Bette Morgan of Austin, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Guy and Vernon Jensen.
