20 January 2017DANBURY, Iowa | Virginia L. West, 79, of Danbury, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff, 400 Fourth Street, with the Rev. Gene Stockton officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Virginia was born on April 5, 1937, in Sergeant Bluff, the daughter of Ferdinand and Vona (Rogers) Claussen. In 1955, she graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School.
On Aug. 17, 1956, she was united in marriage to Rine H. West at the Sioux City Air Base chapel. During the late 1960s, Virginia worked at Pioneer Bank. In the early 1970s, she started working for the Westwood Community Schools until her retirement.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Robert (Judy) West of Solon, Iowa, and Steve West of Akron, Iowa; her daughter, Pam (Romain) Hicks of Danbury; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rine in 2013; her sister, Ruby Morey; and brothers, Kenneth Hodges and Richard Hodges.
