Gary F. Bailey was born on May 19, 1947, in Sioux City to Roy and Darlene (Beals) Bailey. He was a graduate of Leeds High School in Sioux City. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames, where he played Division I basketball, graduating in 1969. He also received his master's degree and many other banking, life and investment certifications.

Gary worked for Norwest Bank, spent 10 years in banks in the Twin Cities, working with Internet banking as well as work in Southeast Asia. He had worked in Arizona, Tennessee and Mexico, learned Japanese and was involved with high tech finance companies. He attended a class reunion in Sioux City, which led to another banking job with Wells Fargo for two years. He moved to Maquoketa in May 2005, as president of U.S. Bank, Maquoketa branch.

He was a member of Maquoketa Kiwanis Club, Maquoketa Rotary Club, Jackson County Hospital Foundation and the Maquoketa Industrial Development Committee. Gary was an avid bicyclist and had raced nationally. He also loved golf and football, especially the Denver Broncos. He had a love for music since he was a child and began playing the drums in the fourth grade. He was in a band in high school and continued to play throughout his life. In recent years, he learned how to play the guitar and played a song for fun with his son, David at David's wedding. He loved listening, singing and playing, but most of all, he loved his family.

Survivors include his fiancee, Sandra Ohl of Sioux City; sons, David (Jessica) Bailey of Fairfax, Va., and Douglas Bailey of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother, Darlene Bailey of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Judy Harmon of LaQuinta, Calif., and Gayle (Mrs. Rob) Madsen of Littleton; two nephews, Dane Madsen and Ian Madsen, both of Littleton; a niece, Dawn Williams of Denver, Colo.; and a great-niece, Peyton Williams of Denver.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Bailey.
