Sylvia Baron of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, in Albuquerque.

Memorial services will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Congregation Albert in Albuquerque. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunrise Funeral Options in Albuquerque.

Sylvia was born in Sioux City to Rose and Max Friedman. She married Arnold Baron in 1940. After World War II, they moved to Rapid City, S.D. They settled in Billings, Mont., where they raised a family, participated in building the community and operated their businesses for 35 years. As retirement approached, they moved to Los Angeles, Calif. and traveled extensively. The birth of their granddaughter and desire to be near their children brought them to Albuquerque in 1988.

She was an accomplished wife, mother, business woman, volunteer, cook and entertainer. She loved people and with her wit and charm brought light and love to everyone she encountered. In turn, she was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Survivors include a daughter, Jaclyn Baron and her husband, Juan Carmacho; a daughter, Judith Baron; a son-in-law, Jeff Schmitt; a granddaughter, Katarina Baron; a brother and sister, Will and Barbara Friedman; a niece, Lorraine Friedman; a nephew, Louis Friedman and families; and a nephew, Jerry Wigodsky and his wife, Judy.

The family wants to give a special thanks to her dear friends and companions, Bonnie McKenzie, who stood by her and deeply loved her for the past five years, Katarina Van Holte, Donna Wilder and Ciria Garcia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 4777, New York, N.Y. 10163-3772 or Mazon A. Jewish Response to Hunger, 1990 S. Bundy Drive, Suite 260, Los Angeles, CA. 90025.
