Irene F. Hawkins, 87, of Sioux City passed away suddenly Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at her residence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James A. Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hawkins was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Fairfax, S.D., to Fred and Cecilia (Lappe) Suedbeck. She attended rural schools and worked in the Fairfax area until moving to Sioux City in 1939. She served briefly in the U.S. Navy toward the end of World War II.

On Nov. 19, 1945, she married Robert W. Hawkins in Sioux City. She was employed as a machinist with Wincharger and Zenith corporations for many years. She also worked on the banquet and waitress staff of the Martin and Sheraton Hotels, as well as restaurants such as the Silver Steer. She was noted for her elegant table settings.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen M. Hawkins of Sioux City, Jean Marie and her husband, Donald Plucker of Kennewick, Wash., and Midge Dublinske of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother, John Suedbeck of Fayetteville, N.C.; five sisters, Johanna and her husband, Victor McCurley of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Esther and Mary Ann Suedbeck of Gregory, S.D., Dorothy Sauntry of Phoenix, Ariz., and Leona and her husband, Kenneth Schmitz of Gregory, S.D.; a brother-in-law, Dick Swift of Hawarden, Iowa; six grandchildren, Wayne, Sara, Robert and Angela Plucker, Julie Dublinske and Joshua Michtom; two great-grandsons, Jacob Plucker and Max Michtom; and 37 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Anthony; and five sisters.
