Bernice Marie "Bernie" Lynberg Holtze, 86, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at her residence.

Private memorial services are pending.

Bernie was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Sioux City. After teaching school in Harris and Whiting, Iowa, she moved to San Francisco, Calif., where she worked for Standard Oil.

She married Harry S. Holtze Jr. in Mexico City in 1943, since his wartime posting to Trinidad did not permit him to return to the United States. While raising her family in Sioux City, she earned a bachelor of arts degree from Morningside College. During her term as president of the Junior League, she helped to found the Sioux City Public Museum. She moved to Colorado in 1976, living in Snowmass, Aspen and Denver.

She was an accomplished organist and pianist, playing the organ for Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. In addition to music, she loved to travel and had visited much of the world.

She is survived by four sons, Steve (Elizabeth) Holtze, Eric (Kathryn) Holtze, Kirk (Trish) Holtze and Jan (Karin) Holtze; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
