Opal (Otis) Bolen, 95, of Sioux City died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Al Weiss of First Assembly of God Church officiating. Private graveside services will be Thursday in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Opal Earlene was born Aug. 28, 1910, in Sioux City, the daughter of Earl and Gertrude Otis. Her father died in a train derailment in 1917 when she was 7-years-old.

She married Ralph Bolen on Aug. 10, 1929, in Iowa. He died in November 1988, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Their marriage lasted 59 years.

The couple lived in Lexington, Neb., most of their lives and attended First Presbyterian Church. As a musical family, they both played the organ. She once played for a Barry Goldwater Dinner and for a Miss America Pageant.

Later in life, the couple moved to Los Osos, Calif., where Ralph lived out his life. They attended the Nazarene Church there and had many friends in the San Luis area. She moved back to her birthplace after 2000. She lived in Northern Hills Retirement Center, then at Westwood Nursing and Rehab until the time of her death.

She enjoyed music, art and flowers.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dennis and Helen Bolen of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Robb and Dori Bolen of Nampa, Idaho; a sister, Corrine Saline of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; a sister, Shirley Rasmussen; and a brother, Phil Fett.

Memorials may be made in her name to First Assembly of God Church in Sioux City.
