SALIX, Iowa -- Betty Jean Malloy, 68, of Park Forest, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, in Olympia Field, Ill., following a brief illness.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Cemetery, Salix, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel.

Betty was born July 9, 1937, in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Sylvia (Anderson) Harsh. She graduated from Castana High School in 1958.

She married John P. Malloy, formerly of Salix. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her handicapped son, James.

She was a longtime volunteer for Southstar Services, assisting the mentally and physically handicapped. She was a active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 474 in Matteson, Ill., and the women of the Moose Chicago Heights Chapter 675.

She was the beloved wife of John P. Malloy; devoted mother of Bonny and James Malloy; and sister-in-law of Betty and Don Morey, Dick and Lois Malloy, Dan and Carol Malloy, Tim and Mary Malloy, Patrick Malloy and Tom Malloy.

She was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Margaret Malloy and Catherine Baily.
