Henry Eugene Vonder Lieth, 77, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, from natural causes, surrounded by his family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the conclusion of the services Monday. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Henry was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Alvord, Iowa, the son of Henry and Marie (Shultz) Vonder Lieth. He grew up, attended country school and worked as a hired hand on farms in Lyon County, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1947 to 1950.

He had five children by marriage to Alberta Gardner. He had lived in Sioux City since 1946. He worked for packing plants in Sioux City including Cudahy's, Sioux City Dressed Beef, Raskin Packing and John Morrell. He also worked part time at Balantyne Keen Korner Gas Station.

Henry enjoyed vintage and muscle cars, car shows and was a NASCAR fan.

Survivors include five children, Paula Lantry and her husband, Sonny of Banning, Calif., Van "Butch" Vonder Lieth and his wife, Coleene, Henry "Mike" Vonder Lieth and his fiancee, Deb Rowden, Ken Vonder Lieth and his wife, Donna, and Cheryl Anderson and her husband, Bryon, all of Sioux City; two sisters, Betty Martinez of Hanford, Calif., and Pat Stogland and her husband, Richard of Lancaster, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Bryon and Jacob Anderson, Vance, Korey and Kendra Vonder Lieth, Angela Nichols, Jessica, Kelsey, Kara and Jenna Vonder Lieth, Penni, Sonnilynn and Misty Lantry; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife; a granddaughter, Heather; and three brothers, John, Charles and Bill Vonder Lieth.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
