ANTHON, Iowa -- Alex Joseph Parker, 17, of Anthon passed away suddenly Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Maple Valley Anthon-Oto High School in Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Karl Harman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer at 7 p.m., at United Methodist Church in Anthon. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville, Iowa.

Alex Joseph Parker was born Dec. 19, 1988, at Sioux City to Lloyd and Jody (Grell) Parker. He was a junior at Maple Valley Anthon-Oto High School and was active in football, wrestling and FFA. He was a member and officer of the Anthon Advancers 4-H and was honored as 4-H'er of the year. He was also a member of the Woodbury County Council. Alex showed cattle and was a blue-ribbon winner at the Iowa State Fair with his welding project. He enjoyed paint balling, swimming and hunting with his friends. He also liked video games, Texas Hold-Em, Travis Cameron's bonfires with friends and watching movies.

Alex was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anthon. He was confirmed in 2003.

He is survived by his parents, Jody (Grell) and Lloyd Parker of Anthon; two brothers, Keith Parker and friend, Andrea Twitchell of Marcus, Iowa, and Jake Parker, still at home; grandparents, Joseph Grell and special friend, Donna Glasson of Washta, Iowa, and Dorothy Parker of Anthon; aunts, Jeri (David ) Johannsen of Sutherland, Iowa, Nancy (Gary) Seuntjens of Danbury, Iowa, and Carol (Alan) Walsh, of Odebolt, Iowa; uncles, Jed Grell of Washta, Iowa, and Frank Parker of Papillion, Neb.; cousins, Jason (Kelly) Ashley, Jared (Kara) Ashley, Clinton and Cody Pierce, Laurie (Jay) Warren, Michelle (John) Schultz, Jordan and Brittany Walsh, Drew and Dax Johannsen, Bethany, Cassie, and Jered Grell as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Janet Grell and Wallace Parker; an aunt, Debra Grell; an uncle, Marion (Chick) Ashley; and a cousin, Angela Pierce.
