Rosa (Hines) Hughes, 92, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Janice Bennett of Riverside United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in McCook Cemetery, North Sioux City. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Rosa was born Jan. 23, 1914, in O'Neill, Neb., the daughter of David and Mattie (Preston) Pittinger. She grew up and attended school in New Castle, Wyo. She moved to Rushville, Neb., in 1926.

She married Albert Hines on Jan. 30, 1935, in Rushville. The couple moved to Pine Ridge, S.D. after their marriage. They moved to North Sioux City in 1955. Albert died June 23, 1969. She moved to the Riverside area in 1970.

She married Velmer Hughes in March 3, 1979. Velmer died in 1983. She entered the nursing home in 1986.

Her hobbies include sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking. She was active in Riverside Senior Center. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and the adult Bible study groups.

Survivors include 10 children and spouses, Mildred Klein of Kimball, Neb., Mary and Ben Hughes of Sioux City, Al Hines of North Sioux City, Stanley Hines of Des Moines, Frank Hines of Sioux City, Carol and Terry Riffey of Ponca, Neb., Wanda Ingalls of Sioux City, Florence and Gary Tallman of Placerville, Calif., Harvey Hines of Des Moines and Gladys and Harley Jensen of Hay Springs, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Irma Pittinger of Fredericksburg, Texas; 42 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Albert Hines and Velmer Hughes; two sons, Harvey Dale Hines and Donald Hines; two daughters, Shirley Hines and Margaret Hughes; three stepsons; two brothers; two sisters; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
