Donny Valdez, 45, of Sioux City entered into peace with his family by his side Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Covenant Church, with the Rev. Mike Vable officiating. Following the service, the body will be cremated and scattering will take place in Wyoming. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Donny was born Dec. 27, 1960, in Rock Springs, Wyo., the youngest child of Arthur and Margaret (Barela) Valdez. He graduated from Rock Springs High School. After graduation, he worked in the area oil fields.

He met the love of his life, Teresa M. Swanson in Rock Springs. They were married Sept. 24, 1988, in Virginia City, Nev. In 1987, they moved to Elko, Nev., where he began working at the Newmont Fold Mining Company. He retired from Newmont after 16 years of service due to his illness.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his six grandchildren. He also enjoyed the mountains, fishing, camping, racing and of course, football (Go Raiders).

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Teresa; two daughters and their husbands, Kim and Mike Hofmeister of Pender, Neb., and Stephanie and Ray James of Spring Creek, Nev.; six grandchildren, Cole, Carley and Chase Hofmeister and Jesse, Jodi and Jaylyne James; his mother, Margaret Valdez of Utah; two brothers, Arthur Jr. and Bernard and his wife, Becki of Nevada; sisters, Lynn (George) Copyak of Utah, Brenda Campbell of Nevada, and Deb (Jeff) Davis of Sioux City; his father and mother-in-law, Chuck and Dorothy Swanson of Dakota City; several nieces and nephews; and two friends, Ramon and Roman Aguirre.

He was preceded in death his father; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Davis, Ramon and Roman Aguirre, George and Rocky Copyak and Troy Valdez. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Swanson, Jason Moore, Ray James and Mike Hofmeister.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Siouxland for their care giving and being with them through this difficult time.
