SIOUX CITY | Marven M. Martens, 83, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at a local nursing facility.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Armand J. Bertrand as celebrant. A luncheon will immediate follow the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Marven was born on March 7, 1933, in Rushmore, Minn., to Claus and Grace (Frey) Martens. He received his education in Rushmore and Worthington, Minn., schools. Marven served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married Shirley Eufers on Feb. 17, 1962, in Sioux City. Other than a short stay of two years in California, Marven has spent the majority of adult life in Sioux City. He worked at John Morrell in Sioux City until his retirement.

Marven was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, especially cribbage, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Marven is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Shelly Martens; son, Jeffrey Martens, all of Sioux City; sister, Marvella Baird of Norwalk, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marven was preceded in death by his parents.
