Lois E. Hannel, 86, of Sioux City died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Lee Williamson of Whitfield United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery, Cushing, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hannel was born May 28, 1919, in Cushing, Iowa, the daughter of Franklin and Josephine (Davis) Stoneking.

She married Lloyd R. Hannel on July 19, 1940, in Cushing. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2002, in Sioux City. She was a sales clerk with F.W. Woolworths for several years. Later, she was employed with T.S. Martin's. More recently, she was a cook at West Middle School. Following her retirement from West Middle, she was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center Gift Shop.

She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was a longtime member of Whitfield United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four children, Karen and her husband, David Bennar of Moville, Iowa, Kay Cooke of Santee, Calif., John Hannel and his wife, Barbara of Lewisville, Texas, and Joe Hannel and his wife, Maureen of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Stoneking; a grandchild, Patricia Bennar; and a son-in-law, Charles C. Cooke.

Pallbearers will be James Bennar, Joshua Bennar, Susan Soukup, John Paul Hannel, Sarah Hannel and Sean Hannel. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Hannel, Dennis Stoneking, David Stoneking, Tim Stoneking, Dennis Schwab, Jeromey Hannel, Wayne Soukup, Zachary Hannel and Jason Hannel.
