JoAnn Johnson, 70, of Sioux City died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Francis officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 3, 1934, in Greenville, Iowa, the daughter of Bert Robert and Mabel Mae (Battin) Mills. She attended school and graduated from Webb (Iowa) High School in 1951.

She married James Johnson on May 7, 1952, in Ridgeland, S.C. She had been a resident of Sioux City since 1953. She was employed with Jarvis Candy for nine years, Morningside College from 1976 to 1995, Winnebago Health Start and Child Health Specialty Clinics -- University of Iowa.

She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Bible School and served as a deaconess. She enjoyed reading, book group, her grandchildren, traveling, playing cards and games.

She is survived by her husband, James; her mother, Mabel Mae Mills of Remsen, Iowa; a daughter, Debra Beatty of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Denny and Lisa Johnson of Lutz, Fla., and Greg and Linda Johnson of Gainesville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and her siblings and spouses, Duane and Gail Mills of Bedford, Va., Jean and Claire Ferguson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Joy and Gary Larson of Remsen, Iowa, Larry and Mary Mills of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Marlene Rounds and her special friend, Gerald Howe of Augustine, Fla., and Linda and Gene Tenpas of Austin, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bert Robert Mills; and a son-in-law, Louis Beatty.

Memorials may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
