John E. Strong, 63, of Sioux City passed away Monday, December 17, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

John Edward Strong was born June 30, 1944 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Erma (Tsoephe) Strong. He graduated from Akron High School in 1958.

He was united in marriage to Betty Pies for more than 40 years. She died April 6, 2005 in Sioux City. He moved to the Los Angeles, California area in the early 1960's. They moved back to Sioux City in 1968. He worked for Floyd Valley Packing for 20 years, then for nearly 20 years in the maintenance department of Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City.

He was a former UFCW member. He enjoyed making crafts in his garage and finding new ways of “correcting things.” He loved listening and dancing to country music at the Eagles in Sioux City and South Sioux City.

He is survived by his son, Stephen Strong of Sioux City; two daughters, Joyce Strong of Sioux City and Patricia Strong of Watertown, Mass., and a brother, Jack Strong of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
