HOMER, Neb. -- Myrtle Ann Smith, 97, of Homer passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Homer United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Call officiating. Lunch at the American Legion will follow. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Myrtle was born May 3, 1910, in Allen, Neb., the daughter of Charles H. and Jessie (Howard) Herfel.

She married Eldred C. Smith on Jan. 30, 1929, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Dixon Neb., area until retiring and moving into Homer.

She was a member of Homer United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Merlin Chambers of Homer; two grandchildren, Kevin Chambers and Leigh Anne Chambers; two great-grandchildren, Justen and Ryan Chambers; three great-great-grandchildren, Ashtyn, Victoria and Jaiden; and a special cousin, Jerry and Ardis Koester.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldred on Oct. 11, 1984 in Sioux City; and a brother, Clarence.

She will be carried in love by her family, Kevin, Leigh Anne, Justen and Ryan Chambers, Robin Bates and Anna Borg.

Myrtle accepted Jesus as her Savior many years ago and now rests in his arms after struggling through the valley for 13 years.
