Richard Charles "Dick" Tucker, 82, of Cheyenne, Wyo., formerly of Sioux City, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2007, at the Davis Hospice facility.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne. Arrangements are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home in Cheyenne.

Dick Tucker was born Oct. 23, 1925, to Joy and Ethel (Hubbell) Tucker, on a farm west of Carroll, Neb. He attended elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Carroll High School in 1943. He volunteered for military duty upon turning 18 years in the fall of 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for 30 months. He returned to Carroll for a short period, then moved to Sioux City to work for the Standard Oil Company in 1947.

He married Miriam Roberts on June 8, 1951. The couple moved to the Morningside area, where he owned and operated Tucker's Standard on Morningside Avenue. After selling the business in 1982, he sold real estate in the Sioux City area until Miriam's death in 1986. The couple raised their five children in Sioux City and were members of Grace United Methodist Church. They were active in numerous civic organizations and community affairs.

He married Dorothy (Hamer) Scribner in 1987 and they made their home in Cheyenne, Wyo., and wintered at Leisure World in Mesa, Ariz. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne and Red Mountain United Methodist Church in Mesa, where he served in the church board for several years.

He loved playing games (billiards, cards, cribbage, etc.) and at family gatherings would typically organize a tournament of one sort or the other. He was an accomplished woodworker and craftsman, making all kinds of wonderful gifts for friends and family. Those of us who have one or more of his projects treasure them dearly. He will always be remembered for his wonderful skills and willingness to help friends and family with many home improvement projects.

His retirement years were wonderful as both he and Dorothy enjoyed their families and friends, participating in golf, dancing, travel, card games and their church activities. They became avid ballroom dancers and joined two dance clubs at Leisure World. The couple loved to travel and enjoyed many trips and cruises to various parts of the country and world.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Joe (Jane) of Charlotte, N.C., Tom (Gail) of San Antonio, Texas, John (Kitty) of Omaha, Jim (Ann) of Plano, Texas, and Anne Tucker (Mike) Slama of Coon Rapids, Minn.; stepchildren, Curtis Scribner of Oakland, Calif., Nancy Scribner of Cheyenne and Bill (Gina) Scribner of Cheyenne; sisters, Pat Roberts of Carroll, Neb., and Melba French of Buhl, Idaho; a brother, Rush (Paula) Tucker of Mesa, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 35 years, Miriam.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Davis Hospice Center or the charity of the donor's choice.
